Why CARE?
CARE is a unit dedicated to preparing people to meet emerging public health challenges.
As New York State’s public health laboratory, Wadsworth Center serves communities across the state. CARE supports this mission by strengthening connections between the Center and the communities it serves, while expanding opportunities for engagement, education, and collaboration.
CARE also focuses on developing and supporting the lab workforce behind the scenes. By investing in professional development, linkages with schools, and connecting experts to trainees, we are helping to build and sustain a strong pipeline of skilled scientists and support staff.
Through these efforts, CARE helps ensure that New Yorkers continue to benefit from a highly trained, forward-looking public health workforce.
What we do:
CARE brings together programs and partnerships that support both the public health workforce and the communities we serve. Our work focuses on building connections, creating opportunities, and supporting development at every stage of a public health career.
Our efforts include:
- Programs that support lab staff development at all levels, including leadership training, skill-building opportunities, and peer learning communities.
- Student and academic engagement, including internships, lab tours, and partnerships with schools and universities across New York State.
- Community engagement and outreach through events, tours, and educational activities that connect the public with the work of the Wadsworth Center.
- Internal initiatives that strengthen communication, collaboration, and recognition across the Center.
- Career pathway and recruitment efforts that help attract and prepare the next generation of public health professionals.
