In addition, through training and mentorship under a Principal Investigator, the Research Affiliate I will be responsible for the operation and troubleshooting of LC-MS/MS and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) instruments.

Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Hourly Project Assistant II. The Hourly Project Assistant II will support the Quality Improvement (QI) activities. This incumbent will assist the program with epidemiological research and surveillance of the data associated with the newborn dried blood spot specimens and conduct literature review in QI in newborn screening. In addition, the Hourly Project Assistant II will assist with the program functions, such as providing data entry support to enter information into various newborn screening databases and communicating with hospitals and providers as needed. This position will be part of the External Systems Quality Unit in the New York State Newborn Screening Program at the Wadsworth Center and will work collaboratively internally with other units and externally with the birth hospitals and Specialty Care Centers.

Laboratory Assessors (Clinical) formerly Clinical Laboratory Consultants inspect clinical laboratories, blood banks, patient service centers and specialized facilities performing testing activities within New York State, and laboratories outside the State and U.S. that accept specimens originating from New York State. Laboratory Assessors Clinical or LAC are responsible for conducting on-site evaluations of laboratory staff qualifications and testing procedures including the evaluation of facility standard operating procedure manuals and review of laboratory records; reporting of findings to laboratory directors and technical staff; documenting findings in descriptive narratives and laboratory evaluation reports; and determining the acceptance of a facility’s proposed remediation by reviewing the plan of correction. This position will assist with the management of complaints received against regulated laboratories.

Health Research, Inc. is seeking a part time (50%) Research Scientist I to work within the Scientific Cores, Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). The incumbent will join a team of public health professionals working on a collaborative project to develop a next-generation serology assay for the diagnosis of Trypanosoma cruzi infection, an assay that may enable earlier detection and treatment of Chagas Disease. Through these studies, the Wadsworth Center seeks to understand the immunologic basis for discrepant results seen in current serological tests for Chagas Disease, and provide a low-cost, one-step test that will reliably identify patients eligible for treatment. The incumbent will collect, organize, and handle patient specimens; plan and perform microsphere immunoassays; contribute to the maintenance of instrumentation; analyze data and interpret results; prepare charts and graphs; and contribute to drafting manuscripts for publication in scientific journals based on these analyses.
