The Assistant Research Scientist will support the Division of Environmental Health Sciences’ N-C Organic Chemistry (LOAC) Laboratory’s chemical terrorism and public health emergency program. The incumbent will assist with analyzing clinical samples for (ultra-) trace levels of organic chemicals using techniques based on chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC/MS and GC/MS). The incumbent will also maintain appropriate laboratory documentation, prepare quality control samples, process data, assist with preparing reports and standard operating procedures, and assist with performing other appropriate related duties.

The Hourly Research Assistant will assist with laboratory responsibilities including utilizing genome sequencing to screen enrolled infants for approximately 800 genetic conditions as part of a research study. This study will provide important data to determine how first-tier genetic analysis can be integrated into routine newborn screening and will assess benefits and risks. The incumbent will process dried blood spot specimens, verify infant enrollment, and assist with maintaining laboratory standard operating procedures.

Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist I to work within the Division of Genetics, Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health. The Research Scientist I will offer a stimulating opportunity for an ambitious individual to advance their research through work in molecular microbiology and pathogenesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) in a mouse model of infection. The incumbent will perform experiments that deploy techniques of molecular genetics, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and cell biology - specifically within the framework of a mouse model of an Mtb infection. The Research Scientist I will extensively handle mice, including infecting mice with Mtb, perform intrapulmonary delivery of drugs in Mtb-infected mice, and analyze the lung pathology of these mice. In addition, the incumbent will support the daily operation of the laboratory animal program that includes contributing to the writing of IACUC protocols, participation in routine IACUC-related meetings, mouse breeding, and routine husbandry.

In this role, the incumbent assembles and joins metal and nonmetal piping using various methods, tests systems for leaks, welds holding fixtures, and reads blueprints to plan and prepare necessary materials. Additionally, this position involves supervising and instructing assistant staff through verbal direction and hands-on demonstration of proper techniques and tool safety. Preferred candidates will have experience with Deionized/Reverse Osmosis water production systems and water backflow prevention.
